Despite the partial lockdown in New York City, the 2021 New York Fashion Week is on! Designers had to get extra creative this year to show off their looks, as the catwalk has gone digital. Here are some of our favorite designers and looks from this season’s collections.
Sandy Liang
Liang’s collection this season is all about optimistic thinking and designing dreamlike pieces that don’t really make sense for right now. We love how she adds faux fur to places it normally would not belong. Who else would create a faux fur tube top!
Jason Wu
Jason Wu kicked off the week in an empty retail space in NoHo, New Work. Wu had a few different aspects in his life that were the spark of inspiration for this line; the first being his New England upbringing. This is what inspired the loose American colors palette. The inspiration for his coke patterns was simply the fact that Cola was a partner to the show. Food in general was a huge inspiration for the collection as Wu developed a new hobby of cooking during lockdown.
PH5
Like other designers, Wei Lin and Zoe Champion were both inspired by their time during the pandemic. They wanted to create a sense of comfort and incorporated in elements of pillows and blankets. The wavy lines throughout the collection symbolize the wavelengths of blue light emitted from our smartphones and computers.
